Today is the last day for the children in 6th class and also the children in Junior and Senior Infants. Fr. Merlyn said a special mass in our school to celebrate. It was a lovely occasion and the children in 6th class played a special part in it by saying the readings and prayers and brought forward symbols of their time spent in our school. We wish them all the best in the future and hope that everyone has a lovely summer.
Today we had the finals of our basketball blitz for the 3rd – 6th classes. Joe refereed the games. First there was a play off for 3rd place and Luke’s team played Conor’s team with Luke’s team winning that match. Following on from that in the final Dan’s team played Jack’s team and Dan’s team won that match. Both matches were played in very good spirit and everyone was very impressed with the skill levels from both sides. Joe presented bronze medals to Luke’s team, silver medals to Jack’s team and a trophy and gold medals to Dan’s team. It was a wonderful occasion.
We had our sports day yesterday and although the weather forecast was not very promising it turned out to be a fantastic day and the rain only arrived in the afternoon. We hired a large bouncy slide for the day and the children had great fun on it. In the morning the younger classes had their races and the older classes went on the bouncy slide and after little break we switched over. At 1 o’clock Joe arrived to run a basketball blitz with the children from 3rd-6th, it was fantastic and very competitive. We had a great day, well done to all.
Last week we had a very exciting visit from the Boardman family’s speckled hen ‘Shakira’ and her baby chickens. It was great to see the hen and the chicks in school and some of the children even got to hold some of the chicks.
