Unveiling of the commemorative plaque

Yesterday we had the unveiling of the plaque that has been erected in the school field.  The plaque is situated beside seven oak trees that have been planted by the tidy towns committee to commemorate the seven signatories on the 1916 proclamation.  The children sang ‘The rising of the moon’ which has local connections and also ‘A Nation Once again’ and ‘Amhrán na bhFiann’.  The proclamation was read out by Tommy Murray and the National Flag was raised to mark the occasion. Michael Casey spoke on behalf of the tidy towns committee.  The plaque was unveiled by Gary Brady and Dónal Mac An Bheatha from Longford County Council.

Proclamation day 2016

We had a fantastic day today for proclamation day.  We raised our national flag and sang Amhrán na bhFiann. The children from 1st – 4th showed some of their Ceilí dancing. Martina on behalf of the parents association presented trees to the school to mark the centenary.

Leigh, Katie, Zara, Dan, Aidan and Anna read out the proclamation from 1916. Joshua, Alanna, Ruth and Harry read out new proclamations that the senior class had written for the occasion.  Logan and Ava read out the 1st and 2nd class proclamation. The children did a great job coming up with their proclamations for a new generation.  Lets hope that when we are looking back in 50 years time, some of the ideals have become a reality.

Our projects were on display and parents and guardians really enjoyed looking at all the work that has taken place to celebrate 1916. We have uploaded some photos so that anyone who was unable to attend can have a look at our fantastic work.

Well done to everyone!

Flag Raising

On Tuesday 15th March at 1.15 p.m. we will be raising our Irish Flag that was presented to us earlier in the year by members of the Defence Forces.  Our 1916 commemorative history projects will be on display.  Parents are welcome to attend.

Prize-giving Ceremony

Yesterday we travelled to The Bush Hotel in Carrick on Shannon to receive our prizes for the 1916 Commemorative History Project.

Have a look at the photos of our Senior Infant and first and second classes at the prize giving ceremony. Both winning entries received a glass plaque and every child got a goodie bag.

We had a great day out, well done to everyone!
